One of our families has roots in Extremadura, and their fellow villagers did not hesitate for a second to set up an event to raise funds for SLC6A1 research.

Albalá has always gone out of its way for its people, and it could do no less for Hugo. So the San Joaquín Equestrian Association decided to organise a night-time horse ride on 8 July 2023, open not only to riders but to anyone who wanted to do their bit, raising €1,240.

We really enjoyed the ride, but the best thing of all was feeling the warmth of the people.

How wonderful it is to feel supported by your own!

Continuing with charity initiatives in the Bizkaia town of Ermua, on 17 June 2023 the Ermua Kirolak sports department, sponsored by the town council, organised a ZUMBA MASTERCLASS that raised €1,951.

Sport is health, and that is exactly why they did not hesitate to give their all for a good cause, because we want more RESEARCH into RARE DISEASES like the one our children with SLC6A1 have.

Izan, aged 9, one of Hugo’s brothers (Hugo is our little one from Ermua), plays in the youth teams of Ermua C.D., and his teammates and coaches decided that they also wanted to do their bit and, why not, try to score a SUPER GOAL against SLC6A1.

To do this, they decided to surprise Hugo’s family by organising a CHARITY RAFFLE with Ermua C.D. on 27 May 2023, which raised €1,446… 1,446 million thanks for so much solidarity!

On 20 May 2023, Félix and Arrate, the owners of Coffee-Gin Plan B, a bar in the Bizkaia town of Ermua, where Hugo, one of our little ones, lives, found out that he had a rare disease they had never heard of before. They decided that, that weekend (coinciding with the town’s celebration of the Galician Literature Day, Letras Galegas), they would give 20% of the weekend’s takings to our association, SLC6A1-Spain.

And it was a huge success!… €800 was raised, and not content with that, they put out collection boxes so that customers could keep contributing, and another €202 was donated.

San Pelayo Ikastetxea school in Ermua (Bizkaia) is the school attended by one of our children, Hugo. Ever since they found out that we had set up an association to RAISE AWARENESS of SLC6A1 and RAISE FUNDS to search for a possible CURE, they have gone out of their way to help in every way they can.

A great example is the video recorded by all of Hugo’s classmates and his teachers (andereños) Sorkunde and Ainara to support us and, at the same time, invite everyone to the Dog Beauty Show to be held in the town on 15 July 2023.

In addition, a large number of the school’s families and teachers bought our CHARITY T-SHIRTS, raising €1,458.
